Bushmen
Over the years we have had the great privilege to meet some of these wonderful people.
In central Namibia we visited the Intu Africa Game Lodge Bushmen project which has done such great work in assisting the local community. We went on an early morning game walk with this man and learnt a great deal about how they used to track and hunt animals and how they found their food
In the North we travelled to Tsumkwe in the Nyae Nyae Conservency and were lucky enough to be able to pay a visit to one of the villages in the bush. We just turned up and were invited in to meet everyone - they were very welcoming and friendly. We watched them preparing food and tasted various seeds and fruits. We also bought some crafts. In return we gave them some oranges we had in our truck.
In Botswana we have visited the Dqãe Qare Game Farm community project on a couple of occasions. At the time of our visits the Bushmen were battling against the Botswana Government for their right to continue to live in the Central Kalahari Game Reserve. Happily since then they have won their High Court case and those who want to go back can now do so without hindrance. You can find out more information on the campaign on the Survival International website.
I was fortunate to come across an exceptional batik made in Zimbabwe, depicting bushmen cave art.
